Etta James Simpson

Founder United in Change Assisted Living
and Memory Care LLC

Etta James Simpson is a graduate of the University of Southern California (USC), where she earned her Master of Social Work (MSW) in 2006. Since that time, she has practiced her craft in numerous settings and utilized a plethora of evidenced based therapeutic modalities to assist her clients to strive to be the best versions of themselves.

Etta’s passion has always been to help people across the lifespan, and her vast experience in the field of Social Work speaks for itself. She has worked as a supervisor in an Adult Day Healthcare setting with elderly patients diagnosed with Alzheimer’s/ Dementia, as well as the California Child Welfare System working to promote the safety and well-being of children and families.

Etta honed her clinical skills working as a Psychiatric Social Worker for Los Angeles County Department of Mental Health in their outpatient clinics as well as in the Century Regional Detention Facility working with incarcerated women struggling with co-occurring mental illness, but linking them to community mental health services, substance treatment and housing resources upon their release.

Certified in Group Cognitive Behavior Therapy for Depression, as well as Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT). She was nominated and recognized as “Rising Star Social Worker of the Year” in 2014.

Etta has worked for one of the largest hospice agencies in California providing compassionate care to patients and their families helping them navigate and find meaning to face the end of life with dignity and peace. One of the proudest moments in her career was working with homeless Veterans of all branches of the United States military assisting them to secure suitable housing.

Currently, she works as a Clinical Therapist for a large Behavioral Health Care System, working with severe and persistent mentally  ill mature adults. Etta has always and continues to serve as a mentor to other Social Workers in the field who cross her path. Always willing to share knowledge and experience with them.

Etta practices her craft by the golden rule her mother taught her, “Treat other people the way in which you want to be treated.” Etta treats each person she meets with kindness and shows them the highest level of respect and dignity and meets each person where they are in the lifespan.

Two of her favorite quotes are:

“Change will not come if we wait for some other person or some other time. We are the ones we’ve been waiting for. We are the change that we seek.”

-Barack Obama

“If there is no struggle, there is no progress.”
-Frederick Douglass
